Philips will address green lighting solutions at IGBC 2011 with two topic presentations by Menno Kleingeld, who has most recently worked on innovative applications, systems solutions and lighting solutions that enhance the well-being of people in offices, schools and hospitals.

1. Highly Innovative Lighting Technologies Lighten Up The Future Of Greener Buildings

Philips at IGBC 2011

Philips research has identified that a 5,000sqm office building using older, inefficient lighting technology could save EUR 300,000 in operational costs over 15 years by upgrading to LED lighting technology. The energy savings of LED lighting can be improved by a further 50% when lighting systems are combined with occupancy and daylight override controls - however, only 1% of offices today use such systems to manage lighting use efficiently. Cost-conscious businesses and building managers can lower their energy use significantly through the installation of energy-efficient LED lighting and intelligent lighting control systems.

2. Light & Shade: their complementary roles in advanced energy management

Philips at IGBC 2011

Scientific evidence increasingly supports the view that productivity and concentration can be boosted by managing levels of both artificial light and access to natural light outside. Philips serves the professional office and buildings market with innovative new solutions that will enable employers and property owners provide workplaces that are comfortable and energize employees, while managing energy costs. To that end, Philips has formed a strategic partnership with Somfy, the leading specialist in automated sun protection systems to co-develop intelligent and integrated solutions for controlling artificial light and sunlight entering an office space.
