    What is the YellowDot program?

The YellowDot program is a luminaire certification program that allows manufacturers to test and certify that their LED luminaires are interoperable with Philips’ indoor positioning technology. In support of this program, Philips Lighting has made a range of YellowDot Ready LED drivers available for the European market. The YellowDot program is open to any luminaire manufacturer, and easily accessible.

    Luminaire certification program

In order to obtain certification the candidate luminaires undergo a range of non-destructive tests. If the luminaire passes the tests, Philips Lighting will issue the YellowDot Certification, allowing the manufacturer to apply the YellowDot Certified trademark on its luminaire, and to offer it as such to its customers.

Keeping shoppers engaged is vital for retailers. As consumers move around the store, light levels can change in an intriguing and involving way. The flexibility of LEDs can also support new store layouts and specific promotional events. Imagine, for instance, creating a particular relaxed and intimate ambience for a wine-tasting evening.

    YellowDot ready drivers

Philips is currently offering three YellowDot Ready LED drivers (60, 100 and 150W non-isolated) for the European market. These drivers are based on the latest generation of Xitanium drivers, and therefore have a small form factor, configurable power window, and come with SimpleSet. The drivers can easily be integrated into your luminaire, as they have the same connectors as the Xitanium drivers. The drivers are pre-programmed from the factory with Philips’ proprietary Visible Light Communication technology, allowing the LEDs modulate an identifier at a frequency beyond human perception. As the VLC technology is integrated into the driver by design, there is no impact on the energy efficiency, and allows luminaires to transmit VLC while upholding the guarantee of the driver.

    Benefits for luminaire manufacturers

The YellowDot program enables your LED luminaires to work with:

    • the best indoor positioning solution on the market
    • the most deployed lighting based indoor positioning system in Europe
    • a technology with fast growing industry support from lighting and complementors

How can I participate in the YellowDot program?

Obtaining YellowDot Certification for your luminaires is straightforward. If you are an existing customer of Philips LED drivers, then you can contact your account manager for enrolling in the certification program. If you are not an existing customer, please reach out to us via the contact form. Once you are enrolled, we will work together to define a test plan for the luminaires you intend to certify, and help with testing the luminaires and requesting approval for YellowDot certification.

Benefits of YellowDot Certified luminaires for building owners

YellowDot is the only open program for lighting based indoor positioning, allowing flexibility in purchasing luminaires from multiple parties, while securing interoperability with Philips’ indoor positioning software with these luminaires. By requesting YellowDot Certified luminaires, you are able to benefit from the strengths of Philips’ Visible Light Communication technology (i.e. using smartphone front-camera, no impact on light quality, energy consumption of the driver, degradation of the LEDs), while having freedom of choice in luminaire suppliers.

    Philips Indoor positioning

Indoor positioning allows shoppers and store staff to receive directions to products or to receive location-based notifications. It allows retailers to engage customers in a more meaningful way, and to use location data analytics to measure marketing impact and assess store operations.
